Call to come forth and unalign
The debates around education are shifting. In Europe, questions of coordinated systems with comparable outcomes seem to dominate the concerned discussion around the forthcoming "Bologna" accord. While much critical opposition focuses on the loss of local traditions and fears of global homogenization -- both sets of responses serve only to fetishize knowledge within a commodity economy of education.
SUMMIT without ending
After four days of intensive consultations in 82 sessions SUMMIT non-aligned initiatives in education culture closed on Monday, May 28 in Hebbeltheater Berlin. The 450 registered delegates failed to produce a common declaration but started a process that will be continued online on the SUMMIT mailinglists, forums and websites of the project. Video recordings of many sessions that took place in the theatre hall will be available for download in the next few days.
Summit officially opened
The first "SUMMIT non-aligned initiatives in education culture" has been opened tonight in Berlin. The inaugurational ceremony welcomed 240 delegates and featured six statements by the members of the preparatory commitee. The archived audio live stream of the opening is available for download at:

Learning Organizing / Organizing Learning
Organizing means learning, and learning means organizing. Today it seems increasingly urgent to link the processes of informatization and informalization in knowledge-based economies on one hand, and on the other the constitution of new subjectivities as immaterial or affective labor force.
Organizing has a long tradition in the fight for social rights - and its power lies in the obvious: many can achieve what a single person cannot and the most well-known symbol for that power is the strike or civil disobedience.
