The interactive artwork

Can the spectator address the artwork as a passive on interactive interpreter. If the former be true then the artwork cannot hope to challenge its setting. If the latter be the case then one needs to re-present the spectator as the intended image of the artwork. The second of these two tasks has never been approached due to the ancillary and all encompassing debate of the mind. The major red-herring in Western philosophy.
