The hacker way of learning
What can we learn from the hacker way of learning and how could we transfer tracts of this knowledge in nontechnical fields?
Armin Medosch has conducted qualitative interviews with about 20 creative software developers, sometimes also called 'hackers'. Armin has chosen a specific sub-group of hackers which he prefers to call creative developers. Those are artists, developers and system administrators who either develop software for creative expression or are supporting cultural projects with their work. They are not just writing any open source software but have chosen projects with specific cultural and political aims, which is what qualifies them to be included in this study. In his research great importainc eis laid on the early formative years and the formation of the so called hacker spirit, how hackers learn, etc. Armin could present a brief outline of hs research thesis and discuss this with a group. As the interviews exist in audio and are currently edited for online consumption he could add to the summit radio as well. research homebase: http://theoriebild.ung.at/view
