Video activism, militant research and informal knowledge

An open discussion initiated by Joanne Richardson and Francesca Bria

During the past decade we have seen many different styles and practices of
video activism - from close-up coverage of demonstrations, to projects
that have tried to abolish the distinction between producers and consumers
of media, to more reflective styles that follow godard's distinction
between political film-making and making film politically. What can we
learn from these practices, and especially from collaborative forms of
research that engage closely with marginalized groups? How does militant
research, and informal knowledge produced through mobile networks
transcend the limits of academic, canonical forms?

During this discussion we will show some short clips from collaborative
projects, however we propose having a separate slot of 2-3 hours for
screenings on May 28, during which video activists can sign up to screen
their works - before having the Video Activism Reloaded discussion.
